/24-7PressRelease/ -- Holocaust Documentation and Education Center, Inc. Presents Denmark at the International Series, May 5
The Holocaust Documentation and Education Center Free International Series features Deputy Chief of Mission Anne Mette Vestergaard Denmark 1940-1945: A Remembrance of Occupation and A Celebration of Liberation
Tuesday, May 5 2011, 2:00 p.m. free at the Holocaust Documentation and Education Center located at 2031 Harrison Street ∙ Hollywood, FL 33020.
On April 9, 1940 the dark cloud of Nazi occupation descended over Denmark. Hitler's forces stormed across the German-Danish border and paratroops were dropped by air into the heart of Denmark. Thus began five years of occupation of Danish soil. But the resilience and courage of the Danish people were evident even in these hard times. Ordinary Danes banded together to support each other and to protect and assist the Danish Jews, who had long ago been granted full Danish citizenship and who had complete religious freedom. Please join us on May 5, 2011, the anniversary of the liberation of Denmark, as we remember a difficult period in history and celebrate the triumph of a people that refused to be overcome.
Presenting is Deputy Chief of Mission Anne Mette Vestergaard who has also served as Head of the EU-Coordination Department in the Danish Foreign Service in Copenhage, Chief advisor on European Affairs at the Danish Institute for International Studies, team leader in the Danish Ministry for Foreign Affairs in charge of bilateral relations and negotiations with Central and Eastern European countries leading up to the "big bang" enlargement of the EU during the Danish Presidency, and First Secretary at the Danish Embassy in Paris.
She was a frequent speaker and commentator on current EU affairs in the media. Her publications were destined for a broader audience and dealt with EU enlargements and institutional dilemmas.
Anne Mette Vestergaard holds her masters of law from Copenhagen and Paris and has studied political science at Institut d'Etudes Politiques in Paris and is admitted to the Danish Bar. She has been teaching for several years at the University of Copenhagen and is now an external examiner at Copenhagen Business School and University of Roskilde.
There is no charge for this event, however seating is limited. Kindly RSVP to Irina by calling 954.929.5690 x202 or emailing Irina@hdec.org.
