/24-7PressRelease/ -- Hong Kong's premier hockey league is set to take the ice for the second half of the 2008-09 season after a raucous start that saw intense matches, great goals, and solid camaraderie.
Boasting four divisions and more than 20 teams, the Hong Kong Ice Hockey League has seen its popularity skyrocket since Mega Ice launched its operation in MegaBox Mall two years ago. With interest in hockey surging in Asia, Hong Kong has the edge in the region with its state-of-the-art rink and years of hockey management expertise.
Measuring 26 metres by 57 metres, the rink is the only international sized and largest in Hong Kong. Situated in the Beehive atrium of MegaBox Mall, the venue offers a stunning 30-meter-wide glass window with full views of the harbor.
The gorgeous multi-purpose facility is also designed for performances, concerts, exhibitions, corporate and private functions ¨C even birthday parties.
Mega Ice also focuses on youth development. Organized by Mega Ice, the Penguins Hockey Club is an ice hockey program specifically designed for ice hockey players at the beginner level.
Numerous ice hockey teams from Penguins will actively participate in the tournament¡¯s Youth Divisions. The 2009 Mega Ice 5¡¯s Hockey Tournament will not only act as a platform for the Hong Kong players to polish their skills, but it also provides a priceless opportunity for up-and-coming stars to learn from world class international teams.
More than 30 youth teams, with players aged 6 to 17, from countries including China, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and the host, Hong Kong, will compete for the glory of Mega Ice 5¡¯s Hockey Tournament. With one-third of participating teams Hong Kong based, it shows ice hockey is becoming more popular in the Chinese territory.
Mega Ice rink has further advanced Hong Kong¡¯s position as the host of world tournaments in ice sports. Mega Ice aims to bring Hong Kong for the first time world-class International skating competitions like Asian Figure Skating Championships, the Asian Short Track Speed Skating Championships.
