LOS ANGELES, CA, November 11, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Horvitz & Levy LLP announces that leading appellate attorney Steven Fleischman, formerly of Robie & Matthai, has joined the firm as senior counsel. In addition, the firm has added Mark Kressel as an associate.

"Appellate law requires a different breed of lawyer with a unique skill-set and broad knowledge base. Horvitz & Levy has excelled largely because of our sole focus on appellate litigation, and both Steven and Mark exemplify the qualities that are necessary to win appeals," said Partner David Axelrad. "We are thrilled to add these two phenomenal lawyers to the firm."

Fleischman has handled appeals in both state and federal courts in a wide range of areas, including commercial and business disputes, insurance, legal malpractice and real property. He has represented clients in matters related to mobile home park law, takings law, breach of contract, fraud and unfair competition. Fleischman has been lead counsel in more than 30 appeals and writ proceedings before the California Supreme Court and Court of Appeal and before the federal Fifth and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeals. He currently serves as chair of the amicus committee of the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel. Fleischman received his J.D., cum laude, from Boston University School of Law (1993) and his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles (1990).

Kressel joins the firm after working as an associate at Irell & Manella LLP. He previously served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Jay S. Bybee of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Kressel currently serves as the vice president of the Barristers Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and is a member of the Appellate Rules and Statutes Subcommittee of the American Bar Association's Appellate Practice Committee. He received his J.D. from Yale Law School (2007) and his B.A., cum laude, from Yale University (1996).

Since 1957, Horvitz & Levy LLP has been dedicated to appellate litigation. One of the largest firms in the nation to focus exclusively on appellate litigation, the firm is focused on winning appeals for professionals, individuals, businesses and organizations in a variety of industries. Based in Los Angeles, the firm is focused in the areas of business and commercial law, class actions, consumer law, entertainment, financial, First Amendment, healthcare, insurance, intellectual property, labor and employment, premises liability, products liability and toxic torts, public entity liability and real property.
