How Breast Implant Placement Affects Results

Of course, some women choose to have more obviously enhanced breasts as well, and this is perfectly okay. In fact, your breast surgeon should be able to tailor your procedure to produce whatever look it is you are hoping to achieve.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ, November 08, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Millions of women in the United States have breast implants, and it's very likely you can't always tell who they are. This is because breast implant placement can be used to produce a number of different looks, and many women choose a placement that will provide results that complement their natural anatomy. Of course, some women choose to have more obviously enhanced breasts as well, and this is perfectly okay. In fact, your breast surgeon should be able to tailor your procedure to produce whatever look it is you are hoping to achieve.

Implant Placement Options

With breast augmentation, you can choose to have your implants placed:
- Above the chest muscles - also known as subglandular placement, implants placed above the chest muscles will produce a larger and more rounded look
- Below the chest muscles -known as submuscular placement, this option produces a more natural look and feel
- In between - dual-plane placement puts the upper half of the implant below the chest muscles and the lower half above, in the subglandular location. Like submuscular placement, this option produces a more natural look, but may be more suited for some breast shapes and better able to produce noticeable cleavage

Implants placed fully or partially below the muscles look and feel more natural and may also provide aesthetic benefits such as reducing the visibility of rippling and wrinkling, and preventing implant/breast sagging. Dual-plane and submuscular placement may also reduce your risk for medical risks such as capsular contracture.

Many breast surgeons recommend implant placement below the chest muscles, but no single option is ideal for every woman. During your initial consultation, discuss you aesthetic desires with your breast surgeon to ensure your implants produce the look you find most attractive.
