/24-7PressRelease/ - COFFS HARBOUR, NSW, AUSTRALIA, November 25, 2007 - Gael Drum, Author of the well known Meditation CD series for relaxation, cancer and pregnancy, has just released an exciting new book titled 'Beyond Burnout to Balance'. Drum reveals a real and honest account of a personal relationship crisis she suffered as a consequence of being ill equipped with positive coping skills whilst juggling a successful business career and a growing family.

Gael, now a practicing specialist in stress management and work/life balance, says people don't take stress seriously until it makes them sick; affects their relationships, or ruins their career!

Reports reveal that 89% of adults experience high levels of stress. Many people are unaware of what stress is doing to them on a physical and mental level! They work in jobs where they are expected to sustain high productivity whilst experiencing unreasonable work demands, impossible targets or inadequate resources. They skip meal and drink breaks to deal with their work loads. They go home, play families, work another few hours until they flop on the couch and stare at the tele! Go to bed; sleep a couple of hours before their wide awake and staring at the ceiling! - One in four people experience sleep loss as a result of stress.

When people are exposed to prolonged periods of stress they suffer painful and irritating symptoms such as - headaches, muscle stiffness and cramps; feeling frustrated, irritable or angry, difficulty concentrating, colds and flu, sleep difficulties, exhaustion and generally feeling worn out or run down. Over the long term, the immune system weakens and they become susceptible to diseases such as cancer, diabetes and disease of the heart and lung".

This book gives the reader many strategies and solutions to manage the effects of stress. The very first tip is to commit to taking control of your own personal needs so you have more energy and confidence to negotiate and change what is not working in your external world.
• Practice Relaxation and Meditation technique regularly. Scientific studies show that effective meditation restores the physical body to a calm and relaxed state. Your blood pressure normalizes. You produce less stress chemicals your body releases more positive hormones such as endorphins, therefore your body ages at a slower rate and your immune function improves. Your mind also clears and your creativity increases. People who meditate regularly find it easier to give up damaging habits like smoking, drinking and drugs etc. They become more confident, sleep better and have a happier disposition. http://www.gaeldrum.com.au
• Improve assertive skills to enable you to negotiate better working conditions.
• Make an effort and plan time with friends and family and to make time to do something non-work-related that stimulates your mind and activates your happy hormones.
• It's reported 60% of people are not taking their full annual leave, so make sure you book your holidays in advance so you are certain of taking them.
