Howard H. Russell, Jr., MD Recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Internal Medicine

    New Orleans, LA, February 14, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Howard H. Russell, Jr. has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in the practice of internal medicine.

Over his nearly five-decade-long career in health care, Dr. Russell spent many of them working as an internist in a private practice. He also conducted kidney research and excelled as the Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Tulane University School of Medicine. These days, he serves as Medical Director of Covenant Nursing Home (a position he has held for 43 years) as well as Medical Director of Poydras Nursing Home, Hospice, Compassus, and Nurses Registry Home Health Service. Additionally, Dr. Russell volunteers his time treating patients who cannot afford health care.

When looking back on his career, Dr. Russell recalls a life-changing event; it was when he actively participated in evacuating all of the patients from Touro Infirmary Hospital during Hurricane Katrina. He stayed through the storm and unfortunately lost his home and all his belongings. However, that did not deter him -- he remained in New Orleans and continued to practice medicine. Even now, at 74 years old, he has no thoughts of slowing down.

Dr. Russell earned his medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine. He went on to complete his internship and residency in internal medicine. He is Board Eligible in Internal Medicine, Allergy and Nephrology. From 1967-1969, Dr. Russell served as Director of Hemodialysis and Allergy and conducted ship to shore medical consultations for the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. He is a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society and the American College of Physicians. In 2012, he was the recipient of the Medical Director of the Year Award from the Louisiana Nursing Home Association. He holds multiple listings with Best Doctors in America, and multiple listings as a Top Doctor in New Orleans Magazine. He was distinguished with First Place for Best Bedside Manner by Tenet Health System Medical, Inc.

In 2011, Dr. Russell was named a VIP member of Worldwide Who's Who. The same year, Worldwide Who's Who singled him out as a Top Industry Expert for Excellence in Internal Medicine and named him a Professional of the Year— a distinction that carried over into 2012. Dr. Russell will be featured in an upcoming edition of Pro-Files Magazine and, most recently, was honored by Worldwide Who's Who with Lifetime Achievement distinction.
