Coming out of retirement in 2005 to teach philosophy as an adjunct full professor at the University of Utah, Dr. Tuttle teaches Ancient Greek Philosophy, 19th Century Philosophy, and 20th Century Continental Philosophy, for which he then received a Distinguished Emeritus Service Award in 2015. His career in education began when he first taught as an instructor at Harvard University in the early 1960s and at Boston University and Regis College, thereafter. He also spent a year as Exchange Professor at the Universities of Essen and Duisburg in Germany during his tenure at the University of New Mexico (UNM). Teaching as a full professor for close to 30 years at the UNM, where he taught History of 19th and 20th Century German Philosophy, as well as seminars in great figures, Greek philosophy, phenomenology, political philosophy, philosophy of history, and philosophy of literature, he also served as department chair from 1975 to 1982.

Dr. Tuttle served on the advisory board for the Journal of Environmental Ethics for eight years while in New Mexico. He has since authored several books, including "Wilhelm Dilthey's Philosophy of Historical Understanding: A Critical Analysis"; "The Political in Hegel and Dewey"; "The Dawn of Historical Reason: The Historicality of Human Existence in the Thought of Dilthey, Heidegger, and Ortega y Gasset"; "The Crowd is Untruth: The Existential Critique of Mass Society in the Thought of Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Heidegger, and Ortega y Gasset"; "Human Life is Radical Reality"; and "Fire Night: A Story about Pompeii."

Born in Salt Lake City, UT, where he received a BA in Philosophy and MA in Political Philosophy at the University of Utah in 1958 and 1959, respectively, Dr. Tuttle then completed an MA in Government at Harvard University in 1963, and a PhD in History of Philosophy at Brandeis University in 1967. Notably, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1959.

Married with two children, Dr. Tuttle's son is an astrophysicist and his daughter a child psychiatrist. Active as a member of the Society of Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy, the American Philosophical Association, and the Alta Club, he is a former president of the Texas-New Mexico Philosophical Society. Dr. Tuttle has been included in the 65th edition of Who's Who of America in honor of his work.
