HUDSON, MA, May 11, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rising fuel prices? Instability in the Middle East? Hudson residents are taking action! Thanks to a recently announced rebate program from Hudson Light and Power, Hudson and Stow residents are investing in solar power and securing their energy future.

Hudson Light and Power just announced a $1 per watt rebate towards the cost of a solar electric (photovoltaic) system. The maximum rebate per installation is $5,000 per residential customer and $10,000 per commercial/ industrial customer, per 12-month period. For an average household this rebate can equate to 20% of the installed project cost. "Solar electric systems are showing a return on investment of 12-20%," says Mark Durrenberger, President of New England Breeze Solar. Durrenberger adds, "Solar systems in Hudson are paying for themselves with energy savings and the sale of solar renewable energy certificates (SRECs) in 6-10 years. After that, you've got free electricity from the sun for decades more."

Durrenberger's company has installed over one hundred solar electric and solar water heating systems in central Massachusetts. Despite being based in Hudson, the company has installed only three solar systems in Hudson Light and Power territory. Now that HLP has unveiled this generous rebate, Durrenberger expects those residents who have been on the fence to make a move toward solar power. "It's simply the best time to invest in solar," says Durrenberger, "solar panel prices are at a low point, Hudson has a great solar rebate, tax incentives supply another 30% of the system cost and solar system owners are earning a couple of thousand dollars in additional income by selling their SRECs. We really expect to Hudson to be a Solar Town."
