SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, June 29, 2010
/24-7PressRelease/ -- According to researchers from all over the world, scientific proof has been found that the human growth hormone "makes the worst athletes the best."
According to certain Australian studies, the enhancement, due to the intake of human growth hormone, was moderate, and it especially influenced the athletes who participated in the sprint events, for instance, swimming or running, which needs a final burst of strength because in these events a difference of half a second can help to determine the winner.
The use of human growth hormone, commonly referred as HGH, is strictly prohibited by the Olympics as well as by various other sports although previously there wasn't any sound evidence that it has the capability to boost performance.
The latest study tested HGH in approximately 100 athletes for about two months and found substantial
evidence that human growth hormone enhances athletes' performance and thus its ban from sports is justifiable.
The growth hormone is produced by the human pituitary gland and it helps to encourage the development of tissues and bones. It is also manufactured artificially; however its use is limited to specific conditions among adults and children, like those having growth hormone deficiency, AIDS virus and short stature.
Human growth hormone was widely taken by athletes because it was believed that it helps in building muscle as well as enhances performance. Moreover HGH is also much harder to make out compared to other substances since it doesn't become evident in urine analysis. So, in 2004, blood tests were introduced in order to detect HGH.
In February 2010, for the very first time, a British rugby player was suspended owing to the use of growth hormone. A handful of baseball players also have confessed to taking growth hormone.
The most recent study was carried out on 103 female and male athletes who are mostly within the age group of 18 to 40. For two continuous months, they were injected with either salt water or growth hormone. A few of the male athletes were also given testosterone as it was frequently used along with
HGH.
They were then asked to lift weights, ride exercise bikes and perform jumping exercises in order to check their performance. At the end of the research procedure it was established that human growth hormone didn't enhance power, endurance or strength. The only enhancement was found to be in favor of bicycle racing. There was a 4 percent boost in bicycling speed for those athletes who were injected with the growth hormone while an 8 percent boost for those who were given testosterone shots.
The researchers considered that the enhancement from
HGH products is sufficient to cut off nearly half a second time during a 10-second race covering 100 meters. That short time difference helps to separate the champion from others.
