Hurricane Sandy Threatens, But Luxury Yachts for Charter Still Exhibit at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show 2012

As it makes its way along America's East Coast, Hurricane Sandy has left a path of destruction and disruption in its wake, but it failed to dampen the spirits of yachting enthusiasts at Florida's premier boat show.

BRIANCON, FRANCE, November 07, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Known to many as the 'Yachting Capital of the World', Fort Lauderdale in Florida played host to the 53rd Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show last week (25th to 29th October 2012). Despite the impending threat of Hurricane Sandy, the show went ahead and many of the world's greatest luxury yachts for hire were on show in all their glory.

With the worst of the storm being felt on the North East coastline of America, Sandy's impact was also felt further south with Florida suffering from treacherous rip currents, cooling air and sudden flooding.

Despite this, enthusiastic exhibitors from all corners of the Globe set up to showcase their products and services. Amongst them were luxury yacht brokers, yacht builders, interior designers and exotic car providers.

Day one attendance figures were lower than normal due to the bad weather, but once the worst effects of Hurricane Sandy had passed, numbers picked up and even produced a record number of visitors on the Saturday. Overall attendance figures for the 2012 show exceeded 100,000, testament to the many yachting enthusiasts willing to brave the storm in order to indulge their passion.

Determined not to let the cyclone dampen their spirits, many luxury yacht brokers reported an excellent week all things considered. "Despite the weather, there was a high level of optimism going into the show and that did not falter during the show, reported Kristina Hebert, president of Marine Industries Association of South Florida and owner of the boat show. "People were making deals, and boats had sold signs hanging on them," she added on the closing day of the show.

The Fort Lauderdale show's ability to weather Hurricane Sandy's effects this year is indicative of how some yachting companies have remained positive during this tough period of financial downturn.

For those who have never been to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, it allows those attending an opportunity to get up close and personal with the deluxe superyachts for charter and luxury yachts for sale, as well the chance to network with some of the most important and influential experts in the yachting industry. The show boasts the accolade of being the world's biggest boat show in terms of exhibit areas and stands sold, with over 3 million square feet on land and in the water.

Dates for next year's show: 31st October 2013 to 4th November 2013, hopefully next year without the threat of Hurricane Sandy.
