Gentry's Consignment Boutique removes all the guess-work from consignment shopping, and they know what they have on hand. Owners Betsy and Richard Hangley have instituted a system of computerized inventory so they know - within moments - exactly what they have taken in and what they have sold.
The inventory of Gentry's Consignment is name-brands which come from higher-end department stores or have designer tags. "Women can buy great brands of 'gently' used (that is, practically not at all) clothing and accessories (purses, jewelry) for very attractive prices (generally ¼ to 1/3 of retail)," Betsy said.
"Particularly in the current economy," Betsy said in an interview, "we believe there is a great opportunity to market this concept - I take only high-end brands in excellent condition on consignment."
"Our customers tell us we're their favorite consignment shop in Massachusetts," Betsy said. In the spring of 2008, Gentry's won two Reader's Choice Awards in the Boston area.
Gentry's also donates a large amount of unsold clothing at the end of the consignment period to an Amesbury, Mass. charity which helps families in need.
