CDA Technical Institute of the West Indies is the only accredited and IMCA recognized commercial diving school in the Caribbean.
BASSETERRE, WEST INDIES, October 24, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Captain Ray Black, Founder, Chief Executive Officer and President of CDA Technical Institute of the West Indies, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in commercial diving training.
CDA Technical Institute of the West Indies just graduated its inaugural class on August 27, 2016. The school now has two hyperbaric chambers to not only treat decompression illness (the Bends) in divers, but which can treat serious infections, bubbles of air in blood vessels, and wounds that won't heal as a result of diabetes or radiation injury. The units are housed at the CDA Technical Institute of the West Indies (CDAWI) on CDAWI Del Mar, Basseterre and work closely with the Global Hyperbaric Foudation. In May, CDAWI added to its West Indies fleet: DSV "SEA PILOT" US FLAG, Tender for DSV "PIPELINE SURVEYOR", with the latest technology in SONAR and DEEP WATER SALVAGE.
CDA Technical Institute of the West Indies is the only accredited and IMCA recognized commercial diving school in the Caribbean. CDAWI offers the most comprehensive and rigorous (16 week) program of all the other accredited commercial diver training schools around the world. CDAWI offers more internationally recognized certifications than any other training school.
CDA is accredited by the St. Kitts and Nevis Accreditation Board and the Diver Certification Board of Canada (DCBC). CDA Technical Institute of the West Indies, Inc. is licensed to operate as a private school and is licensed by the St. Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Education.

Led by Captain Ray Black, the school provides the surface supplied diving, inspection, maritime and medical industries with entry level personnel who excel in superior knowledge, skill, safety, and work ethic. The school's training is comprehensive, rigorous, competency based and designed with individual student career objectives, abilities, and interests in mind.
Capt. Black is an Underwater Welding Specialist and a Saturation Diving Supervisor. He is also certified in Specialty Welds Europe and OPEC, and he is an Unrestricted Surface Supplied Diving Supervisor DCBC/IMCA. He holds a four-year equivalent degree in military standards, with a focus in mathematics and physics, earned from Purdue University in 1989.
