ILLUSTRATED ODE TO THE 2004 WORLD CHAMPION BOSTON RED SOX ARRIVES IN STORES AND ON THE WEB OCTOBER 5TH. Book Sales to benefit the Red Sox Foundation.

As the Boston Red Sox begin defense of their first world title in 86 years, Curse to Verse: the Boston Red Sox Miracle Season From A to Z hits the marketplace to help generations of Sox fans re-live the team highs and lows that led up to last year's magical championship.

    /24-7PressRelease/ - BOSTON, MA, October 05, 2005 - Written by lifetime Red Sox fan, Curse to Verse: The Boston Red Sox Miracle Season from A to Z is an 80-page hardcover book featuring a poem that highlights the epic game events from the 2004 post-season, as well as some of the historical lowlights that preceded them. The poem is accompanied by 48 full-color, action-packed illustrations by artist Miles Lewis.

As the poem moves through the alphabet from A to Z, the narrative celebrates all 25 players on last year's talented and endearing Boston Red Sox roster:

S is for a stolen base, in a clinch when you gotta,
when Roberts stole second off Jorge Posada.
The Series' turning point, of that there's no mystery,
sparking the greatest comeback in sports history.

The book also recalls the history of heartbreak that plagued the Sox since 1918:

B is for Buckner, may we finally forget
the ball through his legs, hit by Mookie the Met.
And Pesky's double pump back in '46;
now it's The Curse that's been eighty-sixed.

Curse to Verse: The Red Sox Miracle Season from A to Z is the first book about the Red Sox 2004 championship aimed at the children's and family markets.

"Children will definitely enjoy the book," Hanson said. "But it's really meant to appeal to Red Sox fans of all ages. The alphabet scheme gives parents a way to explain to their kids some of the heartache of past seasons, and why 2004 was so special."

"This certainly is a fun and visually stunning account of last year's accomplishments," said Tom Werner, Chairman of the Red Sox. "The book is sure to be a treasured keepsake for any Red Sox fan."

From the fictional "Casey at the Bat" by Ernest L. Thayer to the poem by Franklin Pierce Adams that immortalized the real-life Chicago Cubs infield trio "Tinkers to Evers to Chance," baseball and poetry have been closely linked for over 100 years.

Hanson hopes Curse to Verse: The Red Sox Miracle Season from A to Z will mark the next chapter in the century-long love affair between poetry and the game of baseball. "An event as extraordinary as the Boston Red Sox 2004 season deserves its own place in the pantheon of baseball poetry," Hanson said.

Curse to Verse: The Red Sox Miracle Season from A to Z retails for $19.95, and will be available for purchase beginning October 5 at the book's official website www.redsoxatoz.com, at The Souvenir Shop on Yawkee Way across from Fenway Park, and at the Barnes and Noble BU Bookstore in Kenmore Square.

All profits from the sale of the book will be donated to the Red Sox Foundation.
