Imani-Frances Iris Smith to Be Profiled in Exclusive Registry

Smith completed a 20-year career for the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service in 1996



    September 2, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Imani-Frances Iris Smith is the first minority female to retire three badges from the department of justice, U.S. INS, and has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in people management.

Imani-Frances Iris Smith has over 20 years of experience as a Federal Officer for the United States Department of Justice. Ms. Smith's expertise is in integrity and people management. She became a Licensed Evangelist on April 13, 2003. Her son, Raheem DeVaughn is a two-time Grammy Nominee R&B Singer, songwriter and producer. He worked with Dr. Cornell West, and on her birthday. Dr. West called her to tell her that she was "one of the greatest," a wonderful woman that had raised an amazing, talented son. She retired as an Immigration Examiner in 1996, and is currently volunteering and counseling in Beltsville and P.G. County coaching young people to be respectful to their parents and elders. She is best known for her integrity and her way of dealing with people.

She attributes her success to the inspiration she received from her father. She became involved in her profession starting as a secretary for the American Federation of Labor Union, AFL-CIO, Wash., DC, TWA Airlines Flight Attendant, Admin. Assist., ABC-TV Channel 7, New York, NY, on to the US Federal Government where she was a Customs Officer, and applied for a position with the Department of US Immigration and Naturalization Service in New Jersey.

She was nominated to receive an Honorary Degree from Maryland University, College Park, MD, but it was given to Hillary Clinton. Regardless, to be nominated was an honor in itself.

Upon her retirement, Ms. Smith received Honorary Resolutions, Citations, and letters of thanks from just about every politician the average Marylander could name, including, Congressman's and Senators from the Capital in Washington, D.C.
