/24-7PressRelease/ - LONDON, UK, July 09, 2006 - A recent news published by a British-based pharmaceutical company suggests that they are planning to introduce an impotence gel that would give tough competition to the Numero uno impotence drugs Viagra.

Viagra which was launched by Pfizer in the US in 1998 was an instant hit for the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction. It was the first approved non-surgical treatment of ED that does not have to be either injected or inserted directly into the penis to achieve and maintain an erection. The name recognition of Viagra is so good that most of the men all over the world have heard of this drug and can tell you what it does and they would also suggest every person to buy Viagra not only to treat ED but also to increase the love making time and power.

But the Gel manufacturing company believes that it can be a tough rival for the so called ruler in impotence treatment. The non-prescription gel will go through clinical trials later this year. The product is designed to be applied directly to the penis for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, The Times of London reported.

Britain's Futura Medical Plc in collaboration with GlaxoSmithKline in the United States are the developers of this wonder gel to compete with Pfizer Inc's Viagra in the multi-billion dollar anti-impotence market, the newspaper said.

The chief component of the gel is glyceryl trinitrate, currently used to treat angina. Viagra was also originally developed as a heart drug, but during clinical trials was found to be effective in treating erectile dysfunction. Viagra has been prescribed to more than 23 million men worldwide since it was introduced in 1998.

According to sources around 1,500 men are expected to be recruited into three clinical trials of the gel that, if given regulatory approval, would be available by 2009, the Times reported, noting the trials will also involve the study of its effects on women who would come into contact with the gel during sex.
