-- Despite the slew of multi-tools currently on the market, from ultra-rugged tool designs to half-hearted keychain trinkets, there just doesn't seem to be anything that quite meets the sweet spot between function and design. StudioMoya has decided to fix that. Today the Columbus, Ohio, based design firm launched its Kickstater campaign for the Hilljak TUUL -- a more modern multi-tool meant for every-day use.
The Hilljak TUUL's patent-pending design boasts a range of functionality, from a rope cutter, to a bottle opener, to two different sizes of box wrench, and more -- all wrapped up into a polished piece that fits easily onto a keychain. "I've used a lot of multi-tools, and one of my biggest frustrations has been that you either get quality materials and functionality, or you get something that looks good and is easy to carry around. Never both," says Joe Moya, the company's president. "The TUUL is all about having the best of both worlds."
After several rounds of prototyping, StudioMoya has found what it believes to be the Goldilocks of multi-tools. "It's just right," says Adam Jonovski, an industrial designer at the studio. "It's compact, it's aesthetically appealing, and most importantly it works really, really well for such a small object."
"We chose to launch the TUUL on Kickstarter because we wanted to be able to access different communities and reach the people who would be really excited about the TUUL," says Moya. The Hilljak TUUL's Kickstarter campaign seeks to raise $7,500 in 40 days. If they meet their goal, the funds raised will go toward manufacturing and the use of high quality materials, including a 440C Stainless steel core.
