Indiana Attorney General Sues Companies for Foreclosure Scams

October 27, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Indiana's Attorney General, Greg Zoeller, recently filed a lawsuit against two Florida companies -- Community One Law Center and National Law Partners -- for allegedly promising to help homeowners stop home foreclosures, and then failing to deliver.

The companies allegedly charged exorbitant fees for these services -- with some Indiana residents paying the companies over $2,500 -- and obtaining nothing in return.

"The lawsuit alleges both companies collected money up front and failed to provide refunds to customers after services were not provided," Zoeller said in a statement. "These companies are separate entities, but both worked interchangeably on files and shared employees."

As a result of this deception, Zoeller claims that the companies violated a number of laws, including the Deceptive Consumer Sales Act, the Credit Services Organization Act, the Home Loan Practices Act and the Mortgage Rescue Protection Act.

Zoeller is also going after Legal Home Loan Solutions, which also promised to help consumers avoid foreclosure -- and charged Indiana residents over $2,000 in fees.

And what did the Florida-based company do for this money?

Indiana resident John Kraft told WISHTV that all he received for his $2,700 was "a lot of correspondence, e-mails and phone calls and stuff and after that I just kind of waited and nothing happened."

The Bankruptcy Option

Facing foreclosure can be scary for homeowners, but they don't have to fall prey to scammers that will take their money and do nothing for them. By filing for bankruptcy, homeowners can halt the foreclosure process -- and in some cases, keep their homes and arrange for more manageable mortgage payments.
