RED BANK, NJ, July 18, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael Knott was there at the beginning of the independent alternative rock movement, from the 1980s fronting the band Lifesavers (also known as Lifesavers Underground, L.S. Underground and L.S.U.), in the 1990s with prolific solo output, and breakthrough with The Aunt Bettys on the Elektra label. Knott returns on the Young Earth Records label with Songs From The Feather River Highway E.P.
Featuring label owner and Lifesavers bandmate Joshua Lory on bass, renowned producer Jesse Sprinkle (Poor Old Lu, Starflyer 59, Demon Hunter) on drums, and multi-instrumentalist Rick McDonough, Knott presents five songs which fit perfectly in his distinctive canon. Recalling the rattling energy of L.S.U.'s Shaded Pain and Cash In Chaos World Tour records, and the introspection of Knott's solo efforts, Songs From The Feather River Highway E.P. sees the musician as a rock and roll survivor who has much more to say.
"We started this project as a Kickstarter campaign, and you can never tell how these things are going to go," said Lory who is also a member of the bands The Bloody Strummers and Cast The Dragon. "Just because you hear from several people saying they want this, that doesn't mean it will automatically translate into a pledge, or translate into the kind of support required to make a recording happen. Yet what started fairly humbly as a live concert recording and a 7-inch vinyl E.P. has steadily grown. Looking back, had I known just how big that was, I don't know if I would have gone through with it!"
Never one to shy away from revealing his own situations and circumstances, Knott is similarly forthright on Songs From The Feather River Highway E.P. Lory said, "With these projects you have a few unspoken mandates. First of all the music has to be new, honest, and speak to today, but your fans have expectations as well. It's a fine line to tread. Fortunately, Michael's music has blurred those borders for many years, and his own record label in the '90s, Blonde Vinyl, practically insisted on that. On those counts, I think this mini-album is a natural and logical extension."
The E.P. is currently available on the Bandcamp site at: https://youngearthrecords.bandcamp.com/album/songs-from-the-feather-river-highway-ep The release will also see life as a physical CD and 12-inch vinyl record in the fall of 2016. The music on Songs From The Feather River Highway E.P. are:
1. Tremor Train Overloaded (Knott)
2. Lady Of Lourdes (Knott/McDonough)
3. Pictures In Cinders (Lory/Knott/McDonough)
4. The Medow (McDonough/Knott)
5. Piano Concord (McDonough)
"There's not only a deep catalog of music out there to be discovered and rediscovered, there are many artists -- and Michael Knott is definitely one -- who have the experience and the desire to break new ground," added Lory. "Young Earth Records exists for this purpose and we hope the response to Michael's new work, and the work of our other artists, will continue and only grow stronger. We're proud to present Songs From The Feather River Highway and glad to finally share it with the world."
