Industry Leader Wendy R. De Shong-Neuhalfen Added to the Cambridge Who's Who Network

Wendy R. De Shong-Neuhalfen leads New Direction Services, Inc. to enable the senior community



    Staten Island, NY, June 6, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Wendy R. De Shong-Neuhalfen, CEO & Founder of New Direction Services, Inc has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of Social Entrepreneurship.

With 25 years of professional experience, for the past ten years. Ms. De Shong-Neuhalfen has been running the non-profit organization she founded in 2000 after visiting a senior housing complex and learning about the needs of hundreds of seniors after their monthly social security payments are depleted. The organization continues to provide healthy groceries including fresh produce to thousands of families and seniors every week, as well as enabling families to participate in programs such as nutrition education, cooking classes for kids and parents, wellness workshops, literacy and reading services and multi-cultural awareness programs, As CEO, she is responsible for managing all operations including the $M budget she has to raise to serve the thousands of needy New York families the organization helps weekly.

Significant positions that Ms. Neuhalfen held which helped to shape her career include serving as Adjunct Assistant Professor, Graduate Division of School of Business and Public Administration at Long Island University teaching classes in non-profit management; working as an Executive at the Food Bank for New York Citv; serving as Biology Professor and Curriculum Developer at the American School of Paris, France and at Notre Dame Academy, a prestigious girls school in New York. And working with the New York City Department of Health's School Program's culturally diverse population on Manhattan's Lower East Side,

Wendy De Shong-Neuhalfen has studied at Long Island University where she obtained Masters Degrees in Urban Studies/ Public Administration; Community Health/International Health and Social Sciences with a United Nations concentration. Wendy also received her Bachelor's Degree in Biology with a minor in German and Spanish from Wagner College, New York. She also studied at institutions in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Paris and speaks several languages.

Wendy has organized conferences, forums on cross cultural experiences and multi-cultural awareness on Staten Island and in New York. She also speaks on many aspects of cross cultural and cultural diversity experiences to many audiences. She also helped with the implementation of the first group of freshmen to participate in the Learning Communities Program at Wagner College. And, she has spoken nationally on diversity issues in the social services industry. Some of her Board Representation included: Past Advisory Board of Sisters of Charity Health Care Network/St Vincent's Hospital on Staten Island; Advisory Board Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services; New York City Human Resources Administration: EFAP Advisory Board and the New York City Coalition Against Hunger; Staten Island Network group: Staten Island Borough President's Anti Bias "Task Force; Friends of Camp St Edward, Fraternite de Notre Dame. Some noteworthy awards include Brooklyn Coalition Against Hunger; Ronald McDonald House/NYC, Literary Honor Society Award at Wagner College for German, World of Women, NAACP, Staten Island Liberian Community Association. She has been interviewed and featured in articles by the New York Times, The New York Daily News, the Staten Island Advance and has appeared in Time Warner Cable's Public Service announcements. Ms. De Shong-Neuhalfen hopes to become published, engage in more public speaking at the higher education level and continue as a social entrepreneur. Wendy attributes her success to her cohesiveness and global outlook on life and experiences working with people from diverse backgrounds.
