NEW YORK, NY, February 08, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Influence Print is pleased to announce the winner of its annual Award for Design Excellence scholarship: Cherylynn Lima, a second year student at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.

Cherylynn has a passion for technology, design, storytelling, and beauty. She believes games and interactive technologies are a compelling force in the world of communication, and through her games and art, hopes to better people's lives and better the world we all live in. Cherylynn will use her award in double-majoring in both Studio Art and Computer Science at Smith College.

Cherylynn submitted the first few pages and concept art behind her in-progress children's book, Laurel and Ceres, and it was the clear winner. The inspirational message and accompanying artwork as a whole is greater than the sum of its parts, resulting in a rich and congruent atmosphere that transports you and allows you to live the story.

Cherylynn writes-

"The story follows a lonely young girl named Laurel who is unable to escape her beast that follows her everywhere. The beast begins to grow and growl--scaring away her friends and family and then leaving her desperately alone. She soon learns that the only way to calm her beast is to befriend it.

This story is a metaphor for the beast that grows and growls within us all--the part of us that lashes out, that seems selfish, the part that's in pain and only wants for gentleness and understanding. I wrote this book because I wanted to inspire others with the metaphorical journey that I had to take to learn to love myself and to love others. I want to share the journey that taught me to befriend my beast."
