Injectable Treatments Work Together to Create Non-Surgical Facelift

Dr. Susan M. Stuart, a leading dermatologist in San Diego, explains how BOTOX Cosmetic and Restylane can reduce signs of facial aging for members of the in-between generation who aren't ready for a traditional facelift.

LA JOLLA, CA, January 05, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Susan M. Stuart, a board-certified dermatologist in San Diego, says non-surgical treatments such as BOTOX Cosmetic and Restylane can help postpone surgical procedures such as a facelift.

By eliminating wrinkles and other signs of aging, these treatments allow 30- and 40-somethings to avoid the realities of surgery until they truly need it. While a facelift is an appropriate method for reversing more pronounced signs of aging, Dr. Stuart says, minimally invasive facial rejuvenation treatments will often meet the needs of younger patients.

"For the right candidate, a facelift can be extremely effective for eliminating jowls and repositioning sagging facial tissue," Dr. Stuart says, "but not everyone is ready for a surgical procedure. Many patients who are concerned about wrinkles and volume loss can benefit from BOTOX and injectable dermal fillers."

Dr. Stuart recommends BOTOX Cosmetic for her San Diego area patients who have begun to notice wrinkles, crow's feet and laugh lines.

"BOTOX temporarily relaxes the muscles whose contractions cause wrinkles," she says. "The results can last for months, and patients can go right back to their normal schedules after each office visit."

Dr. Stuart says injectable fillers such as Restylane and Captique work against facial aging by adding volume and fullness to the tissues that support the skin.

"These fillers replenish facial volume that has diminished as a result of gravity, environmental factors and normal aging," she says. "By bolstering underlying support structures, these hyaluronic acid-based fillers work well for facial lines as well as sunken cheeks. And, studies have shown that Restylane also stimulates collagen production, which leads to younger-looking skin."

BOTOX and dermal fillers can achieve impressive results when used in conjunction with each other, Dr. Stuart says.

"These treatments can work together to create a dramatic overall effect," she says. "Results are immediate, and repeat sessions can improve and even prolong the results. A facelift can do wonders for reversing the signs of aging at a certain point in life, but these minimally invasive treatments can alleviate minor issues. And, of course, these non-surgical treatments can also serve as valuable complements to a surgical facelift procedure when that time comes."

Dr. Stuart is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Laser in Medicine and Surgery. In addition to injectable treatments, she offers laser skin resurfacing, microdermabrasion and laser hair removal in San Diego.

Dr. Susan M. Stuart is a board-certified dermatologist offering laser skin care, skin cancer therapies, laser hair removal and other skin rejuvenating procedures alongside her husband and practice partner, triple-board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Chaffoo. After receiving her M.D. from Tulane University School of Medicine, Dr. Stuart completed a competitive internship at Mercy Hospital Center in San Diego, followed by a residency and fellowship in dermatology.
