With Grammy Award winning artist Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt on the Mohan Veena, Salman Ahmad of Sufi rock music group Junoon on guitar, Samir Chatterjee on tabla and Daniel Weiss on drums, this event promises to be the must see event of Fall 2009. The pure, scintillating medley of the mohan veena playfully flitting to the beats of the tabla and the drums, caressed by the guitar and rounded off with amazing vocals, this one of a kind concert is a bonanza for purveyors of music.
The concert is a fund-raising event for the San Francisco Bay Area chapter of Association for India's Development (AID), a not for profit organization committed to sustainable and equitable development in India. Salman Ahmad is thrilled to partner with AID. He has been in the forefront of bringing positive change in the Indian sub-continent through music. Short Artist Bio:
Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt has Indianized the western Hawaiian guitar with his perfect assimilation of sitar, sarod and veena techniques. With Ry Cooder, he was awarded the Grammy for the album, 'A Meeting By The River'.
Salman Ahmad is the popular guitarist and composer of the musical group Junoon. He has performed live at BBC's Mega Mela, the MTV music awards in India, and at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Samir Chatterjee is a virtuoso tabla player. He represents the Farrukhabad Gharana (school) of tabla-playing. He has performed at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, Norway in 2007.
Daniel Weiss started playing the drums at the age of 6. He has performed and recorded with several artists of international acclaim. Weiss has two recordings under his own name.
