Inuit Students Learn Karate

16 Inuit students from the Hamlet of Kugaaruk (Nunavut, Canada) will be participating in a 90-minute martial arts workshop while in town between May 17th and 24th.
    MISSISSAUGA, ON, May 01, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The 16 Inuit students are part of the YMCA Youth Exchanges Canada. The students, along with 16 students from Riverside Public School in Mississauga will be learning martial arts skills, drills & exercises as a multi-national cultural comparison workshop.

Date of workshop: Sunday, May 18th.
Time: 12:30- 2:00pm
Location: 108 Lakeshore road east, Port Credit, Ontario, L5G1E3

The Academy of Martial Arts in Port Credit is the host for the martial arts workshop. Two martial arts students, Lyndsay Naudie (Brown belt at the Academy), Rowan Beggs (Orange belt at the Academy) and Kaede Fielding (School Librarian, Adult white belt & kickboxing student) organized the workshop with the Academy. "We're excited for our students to gain new skills and knowledge through the YMCA Youth Exchanges Canada program," says Christopher Doyle, owner and Chief Instructor of the Academy of Martial Arts.

YMCA Youth Exchanges Canada promotes cross-cultural awareness; a sense of belonging among Canadian youth aged 13 to 17 and encourages student empowerment through joint projects. Participants are twinned with same-age groups from another province or territory and take turns staying in each other's communities, where they learn new skills, develop a stronger sense of community, and get a chance to experience Canada's diversity firsthand.
