Invention City Announces Inventor Driven Prior Art Research Service

Invention City is now offering a service that provides prior art searches and patentability opinions from an inventor perspective.

BOSTON, MA, July 16, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Invention City, a provider of invention evaluation and commercialization services, is now offering a low cost patent research service that looks at prior art information from an inventor perspective rather than a legal perspective.

"This is a new way of considering prior art information in the broad context of commercial potential," says Invention City CEO Mike Marks. "When patent lawyers and agents consider prior art they seek to answer the narrow question of whether or not a patent is possible. Our service seeks to answer the broader question of whether or not a patent could make a product more likely to succeed. Like other researchers we also consider the invention with regard to the intellectual property rights of others."

Invention City's Inventor Driven Prior Art Research looks for things known in the public domain, including pending and issued patents, old and new products and other information that's been published online in websites, blogs and social media. A patent can only be issued if it is considered both novel and unobvious. Patent examiners review prior art to determine whether or not the invention meets those criteria. After reviewing the prior art, Invention City tells a client how it would respond to the uncovered information. Responses could include going full steam ahead, modifying an invention's design and sometimes putting the project on ice.

Invention City works with the same patent researchers used by major intellectual property firms around the world to search US and international databases. The results are then considered from the company's perspective of professional inventing. According to the company, removing the overhead costs of full service law firms enables reduced operating costs and client savings. The company says that the new service is consistent with its mission of helping inventors move their projects forward while spending only what is necessary.

Invention City's new service is limited to initial prior art and patent research. For patent filings and non-infringement opinions that will have legal standing in a courtroom, the company refers inventors to registered patent attorneys and agents. Marks explains, "We've reviewed thousand of invention submissions over the years and have had some great successes along with many failures. Our goal is use our experience to help inventors understand where their invention ideas hold value."

Invention City is a leading provider of invention evaluation and commercialization services. The company uses a proprietary algorithm called the Inventicator to predict the likelihood that an invention will achieve commercial success and offers assistance and guidance for each of its Ten Steps of Professional Inventing including concept development, prior art searches, provisional and utility patent filings, prototypes, industrial design and engineering, manufacturing, marketing, licensing and more. The company helps inventors minimize costs and maximize the chances of success at every step and inventors may work with the company for one step or all of them.
