Sterling Heights patients can use Invisalign as an alternative to metal braces to straighten their teeth.
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI, June 15, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Invisalign therapy offers adults and teens with mild-to-moderate dental alignments issues the opportunity to straighten their teeth the clear way. The subtlety of the aligners that makes them nearly invisible is one of the reasons Invisalign is highly sought after, according to Sal S. Aragona, DDS, MAGD, AADSM.
"Many of my patients want straighter teeth, but are not willing to wear the metal braces that will help them achieve this goal," says Dr. Aragona, a Sterling Heights Invisalign dentist. "Invisalign takes away all the drawbacks of traditional metal braces and offers the benefits of straighter, more even teeth."
While metal braces use brackets and wires to re-direct the teeth and move them into alignment, Invisalign utilizes special clear plastic retainers that are applied to the teeth. They exert forces on the teeth to gradually move them into better position. The aligners are swapped out every two weeks for new ones to continue the process for straightening your teeth into place.
Dr. Aragona says his patients choose Invisalign for its results as well as the fact the aligners are removable. This means patients do not have to make dietary adjustments to softer or non-sticky foods as braces wearers do. However, it is very important that Invisalign wearers keep their aligners on as long as possible each day - typically about 22 to 23 hours per day for maximum effectiveness. However, you can remove them for eating and brushing and flossing your teeth, which makes for better oral hygiene.
Dr. Aragona has undergone specialized training in Invisalign therapy to understand how to take the best molds to generate Invisalign aligners. He can also review the Invisalign computer software with you to help you identify how your teeth can look after Invisalign therapy. While each patient varies in how long he or she wears Invisalign, most patients wear the aligners between 9 and 15 months. This means you will receive between 18 and 30 aligners while wearing Invisalign.
"One of my patient's most valuable assets is time, and Invisalign therapy gives time back to them," explains Dr. Aragona, a Sterling Heights dentist. "They have to make fewer trips to the dentist as they would with metal braces and they can often wear Invisalign for less time. They receive all of these benefits without having a visible reminder they are wearing a tooth-straightening device."
