-- Ira Bodenstein has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Before joining the nationally recognized legal team at Shaw Fishman, Mr. Bodenstein served as the United States Trustee for a Justice Department component, the United States Trustee Program. In this highly esteemed role, he had primary responsibility over all bankruptcy cases filed in Region 11, giving way to an expertise in the trustee process and a unique perspective on bankruptcy litigation. Now an attorney for Shaw Fishman, he counsels clients on the necessity and timing of filing reorganization cases, and the rights of unsecured and secured creditors prior and subsequent to the filing of bankruptcy. Mr. Bodenstein is also a bankruptcy trustee and federal equity receiver. He has been recognized among the Top Lawyers in Illinois for commercial bankruptcy, as noted by Chicago Lawyer Magazine.
Mr. Bodenstein earned a Bachelor of Arts in government from Franklin & Marshall College in 1977 before obtaining a JD in economics from the University of Miami. He was admitted to the bar in Illinois in 1980, the U.S. District Court of Illinois in 1980, and the seventh circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals in 1982. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1983. By participating in his professional community, Mr. Bodenstein has been able to stay at the top of his field. He is a member of the American Bar Association's business law section, the Chicago Bar Association, and the National Association of Federal Equity Receivers, of which he was a founding member, and has served as its president since 2014. As he looks to the future, Mr. Bodenstein intends to continue focusing on his bankruptcy and fiduciary practice.
