Irwin Morton Birnbaum Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

    CHARLESTOWN, RI, August 31, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Irwin Morton Birnbaum a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Mr. Birnbaum celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Mr. Birnbaum has been a lawyer, a legal educator, and a distinguished member of the Yale University community for many years, serving as an Adjunct Professor and Senior Advisor at the School of Medicine in the '90s and 2000s. His accounting experience as a hospital financial officer early in his career has led him to unique insights in public health administration and law. Mr. Birnbaum is currently an advisor to the Clinician Scholars Program at Yale, as well as an arbitrator for the Alternative Dispute Resolution Service for the American Health Lawyers Association.

Born in Brooklyn to Sol N. and Rose Birnbaum in 1935, Mr. Birnbaum studied accounting at Brooklyn College to earn a BS one year before marrying Arlene R. Burrows in June of 1957. He went on to earn a JD from New York University in 1961. In 1963 he accepted a position as Budget Officer at the Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, becoming Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He continued to work for the hospital until 1986.

In 1986 Mr. Birnbaum joined the Law Firm of Proskauer & Rose LLP in New York City as Special Councel and became a Partner in 1989. During the '80s, he also served as trustee and treasurer for the executive committee of the Maimonides Medical Center.

In 1997, Mr. Birnbaum joined Yale as a Deputy Dean and Chief Operating Officer of the School of Medicine, where his fiscal experience also lent itself to teaching and lecturing on public health, health policy, and administration. In 2004, he transitioned to Senior Advisor to the Dean, and one year later he was appointed Senior Advisor to the prestigious Robert Wood Johnson Clinician Scholars Program at Yale. Mr. Birnbaum has also served the board of the FOJP Service Corporation, FFH Insurance Company, the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies Services Company, the Medical Center Insurance Company in Vermont, and the Jewish Home for the Aged in New Haven, CT, all ways of keeping hospitals operating and saving lives. In that pursuit, Mr. Birnbaum is currently a Trustee of the Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York and the South County Health Systems in South Kingston, Rhode Island. He was also an executive committee member of the Hospital Trustees of New York State, and is currently on the Board of Trustees of the Hospital Association of Rhode Island.

Mr. Birnbaum is the author of a treatise titled "Montefiore Medical Center and the Loeb Center Experience: A Hospital's Fiscal Perspective," and was an editor of the Treatise on Health Care Law published by Matthew Bender & Co., Ltd. He is a trustee of the Cross Mills Public Library. Additionally, Mr. Birnbaum is a fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine, as well as a member of the Bar Association of the City of New York and the American Academy of Hospital Attorneys.

For dedication in hospital administration and law, Mr. Birnbaum was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Finance and Business, as well as Who's Who in Finance and Industry.
