/24-7PressRelease/ -- Although Zipcars offer their customers an attractive and convenient service, the fact remains that a Zipcar is a vehicle and needs to be protected under an adequate auto insurance policy. Sure, Zipcar insurance comes included in the package, but is it enough? A recently published article on InsuranceAgents.com reveals that it might be wise for a driver to obtain his own personal policy.
"While the concept of Zipcar insurance sounds convenient, you might find yourself uninsured or underinsured more often than not," the article,
Zipcar Insurance: Too Good to be True?, states. "By going online and comparing a number of
car insurance quotes, however, you can find yourself a policy that consists of a higher coverage limit and one that will keep you insured through thick and thin."
There are many instances where drivers will not be covered under Zipcar insurance, such as being in any vehicle not supplied by Zipcar and driving it as a non-member. In addition, drivers will not be covered if they use a Zipcar for a competition or for the purpose of towing or pushing a trailer. Drivers looking to use a Zipcar to make trips out to either Canada or Mexico are out-of-luck as well as the company prohibits drivers from doing so.
"If you are expecting to do any of the above with a Zipcar, it's in your best interest to obtain your own auto insurance policy," the article suggests. "You can find an affordable and convenient policy by going online and comparing a wide array of policies from multiple auto insurance providers."
For members 21 years of age or older, Zipcar insurance consists of a combined single limit of $300,000 per accident. If the total amount of injuries and/or damages exceed that, they will be stuck responsible for the remaining amount.
An additional personal policy would guard against this so contact an auto insurance agent today to sidestep the problem altogether.
