NEW YORK, NY, November 16, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Isaac Toussie is continuing a push to shed light on an increase in children with serious illnesses. His recent support for St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Brooklyn, New York was part of broader efforts during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September. On the heels of momentum created by the campaign, Isaac Toussie and others are committing added resources to further increase survival rates.
Incidents of childhood cancer have risen steadily over the past 3 decades, according to City of Hope in an August, 2013 article. While improved diagnosis partially explains the upward trend, a slew of other causes are also considered.
These include environmental pollution and diet, among others. St. Jude's Children's Hospital ranks among the foremost organizations in providing treatment and research to stem the tide against rising cases of pediatric cancer.
Founded in 1963, St. Jude's provides treatment to all patients regardless of financial means, as noted on the hospital's website. Such a model requires funding from private donors to maintain research programs and treatment facilities. Isaac Toussie and other supporters provide funding to attract skilled researchers at charitable hospitals, while also expanding treatment options.
These efforts have helped dramatically increase children's cancer survival rates through early diagnosis and advances in treatment. The results have produced all-time highs for 5 year survival rates nationwide, according to City of Hope, a cancer information site.
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month aims to raise public understanding of pediatric cancers through multiple campaigns and events. Despite increases in survival rates, pediatric cancer remains the leading cause of death for American youth. Hospital executives from across the country have voiced a need to build upon genomics research to identify and isolate cancer causing genes.
The rallying cries against pediatric diseases have captured the attention of children's advocates such as Isaac Toussie. In addition to St. Jude's, he is also a supporter of Ronald McDonald House Charities and several local organizations dedicated to treating children with life threatening conditions.
