Isle of Man emergency services teach children life-saving skills

Representatives from the Isle of Man Emergency Services and Manx businesses are clubbing together to teach Year 6 children potentially life-saving skills.

/24-7PressRelease/ - DOUGLAS, ISLE OF MAN, July 21, 2007 - Topics covered in the training include safety in the home, first aid, drugs and alcohol, smoking and road and fire safety. The presentations are a mix of classroom-based learning and informal interactive session, sometimes even incorporating fairytale pantomimes. The Isle of Man Emergency Services have also put together the highly-successful Crucial Crew "Know what to do" Guide which is now in its eighth year of publication.

Offshore savings bank Bradford & Bingley International has sponsored the Crucial Crew guide which has been written to help educate children about health and safety in a fun and interactive way. The savings bank which is based on the Isle of Man specialises in a range of offshore savings accounts for expatriates and the international community. These include monthly income and base rate tracking savings accounts, fixed rate bonds as well as award winning internet savings accounts.

Dave Asbridge, who organises the Crucial Crew project, commented, "The education is about health and keeping safe, and teaches children what to do in the event of an emergency. These messages are not only for the children as they take them home and pass them on to their families."

Lynette Byrne, Head of Marketing at Bradford & Bingley International commented, "It is a privilege to sponsor such a worthwhile initiative. Crucial Crew really benefits the community and provides pupils with essential life skills. The children not only learn about the health and safety issues they are likely to face but also what to do in those circumstances."
