SAN DIEGO, CA, February 16, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/
-- San Diego remodeling firm Jackson Design & Remodeling
(JDR) announced today it has won five regional Contractor of the Year (CotY) Awards for three kitchen remodels and two bathroom remodels, all located in San Diego. The awards are presented by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). JDR's wins came in the Southwest region, which includes California, Hawaii and Utah.
As regional winners, the projects will now automatically advance to the national CotY awards, which will be announced at NARI's
annual "Evening of Excellence" reception March 28 at the New Orleans Marriott in New Orleans, Louisiana.
"The CotYs are the remodeling industry's version of the SAG awards, they are judged by our peers, which makes these acknowledgements a tremendous honor," said Todd Jackson
, President and CEO of JDR. "The diversity of these projects is remarkable. It really demonstrates the incredible range of talent of our design team, our architects and our entire design-build team. I'm proud to work alongside them."
JDR's five winning projects, included:
Residential Kitchen $40,000 to $80,000: Retro Revival
For a client with an enthusiastic appreciation of retro design, the JDR team led by Senior Interior Designer Rosella Gonzalez, Member ASID; Assistant Designer Karina Delgadillo; and Architectural Designer Chris Ashby; selected bright, optimistic yellow to set the tone in the room, with retro-inspired appliances in buttery yellow chosen as key elements of the design. A generous apron-front farm sink gleams with clean white enameled cast iron and is outfitted with a rare retro faucet with spray and scrub brush attachments. Black trim against the yellow ceramic tile countertops defines the kitchen's lines. Simple maple cabinetry painted white with black ceramic knobs provides a modern level of storage. Playful positioning of contrasting tiles on the floor presents a modern, quirky interpretation of the traditional checkerboard pattern in this classic kitchen with an original point of view.
Residential Kitchen $80,001 to $120,000: Modern Glamour
A professional couple with an appetite for glamorous entertaining wanted a more inviting kitchen to welcome large groups of friends and family. The design team, led by Sol Quintana Wagoner
, Senior Interior Designer, Member ASID; Assistant Designer, Olga Trujillo; and Architectural Designer, Chris Ashby, selected a circular sparkling chandelier to hang from a metallic silver ceiling, immediately establishing a mood of excitement and glamour. The dining area, kitchen and bar are in an expansive living area defined by sweeping vaulted ceilings. An extra-large island delineates the kitchen area, punctuated by a striking designer hood. The room glitters with purple, silver and charcoal hues. At the far end of the kitchen, a seductively lit bar opens to the backyard where the clients frequently entertain poolside. Throughout the expansive area, careful attention to lighting, materials and space planning creates a sense of intimacy and welcoming warmth.
Residential Kitchen over $120,000: Mid-Century Modern
This remodel of a kitchen in a La Jolla Farms home, designed in the 1960s by noted architect Dale Naegle, imaginatively blends the divergent tastes of a young couple with school age children. The design team, led by Tatiana Machado-Rosas
, Senior Interior Designer, Member ASID; Alison Green, Interior Designer, Member ASID; and John Kavan, Architectural Designer, carefully selected materials, including white quartz countertops against dark bamboo cabinetry in a horizontal grain in order to present a clean, shining and streamlined impression. The stunning backsplash of Italian Calacatta marble blends perfectly with the countertops and wraps the kitchen in luxury. Sections of the marble were carefully selected to find the most dramatic veining effect above the cooktop. For lighting, a trio of pendant globes visually establishes the linear layout of the kitchen space. The elegant yet comfortable new dining area is furnished with a pair of vintage Barcelona lounge chairs and decorated with pieces from the clients' modern art collection. The home's original concrete floors were replaced with new poured concrete and finished with a gleaming surface treatment. The new design honors the home's rich past while creating a comfortable, modern space for a young family.
Residential Bath under $30,000: Glittering Drama
A couple that frequently entertained guests from their professional circle wanted a new powder room to make a memorable, dramatic impression. The design team, led by Sol Quintana Wagoner, Senior Interior Designer, Member ASID; Vanessa Tejera, Assistant Designer; and John Kavan, Architectural Designer, first constructed a wall to conceal the venting system, allowing for the addition of a free-standing vanity. An impressive wall of tile is the focal point of the bath with deep hues of ebony, gold and dark brown, illuminated by gold leaf lighting, which is activated by a sensor when entering the room. A curved mirror with a rustic Asian-themed wood frame is the backdrop for a stunning onyx sink with gold fixtures. The sink appears to glow with creamy luminescence atop the free-standing vanity with Shoji-style doors. The new powder room is bright, welcoming and conveys a glittering sense of drama, delighting guests as the showpiece of the home.
Residential Bath $30,000 to $60,000: Unfolding Privacy
A couple with an affinity for Asian and contemporary themes needed a new guest bathroom for visiting family and overnight guests. With extended visits from their parents and other family members in mind, it was important the design allowed more than one person to comfortably share the space. The JDR design team, led by Sol Quintana Wagoner, Senior Interior Designer, Member ASID; Vanessa Tejera, Assistant Designer; and John Kavan, Architectural Designer, created a sense of simple, light-filled luxury in the new bathroom by harmonizing tranquil colors, the visuals of flowing waterfalls, and the serenity of clean, Asian-inspired lines. An innovative Shoji screen-style door opens in three widths for varying degrees of privacy. This creative solution makes it possible for one guest to use the shower while another uses the sink area. A quartet of lights at the vanity was selected for its resemblance to a string of paper lanterns. Streamlined bamboo cabinetry with simple horizontal fixtures provides organized storage with an uncluttered effect. This peaceful oasis now communicates the clients' passion for Asian themes while providing their guests with a calm, private space for relaxation and reinvigoration.
An impartial panel of judges who are experts within the industry and associated fields, selected the 2014 winners based on each entrant's "before and after" photography as well as a detailed project description. Judging was based on problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, degree of difficulty and entry presentation.About Jackson Design and Remodeling
