Jackson Design and Remodeling Earns Six Regional Contractor of the Year Awards

As the First Major Awards Program of the Year, the CotYs are the "Golden Globes" of the Design Industry

SAN DIEGO, CA, February 07, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jackson Design & Remodeling (JDR) today announced that the company has won six regional Contractor of the Year (CotY) Awards from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) for newly remodeled residential kitchens, baths and an entire home. Located in Southern California, JDR's regional win came in the Southwest region, which includes Hawaii and Utah.

As the first major industry awards program of the year, the CotYs, like the Golden Globes are a predictor of the projects across the nation that will be gracing winner's podiums over the course of the year. In the past, JDR's CotY award wins have gone on to earn NKBA, ASID and Master Design awards.

JDR's winning projects will automatically advance to the national CotY awards, which will be announced at NARI's annual "Evening of Excellence" reception on April 8, 2016 at Sheraton Austin Hotel at the Capitol in Austin, Texas.

An impartial panel of judges, who are experts within the industry and associated fields, selected the 2016 winners based on each entrant's "before and after" photography as well as a detailed project description. Judging was based on problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, degree of difficulty and entry presentation.

"I am incredibly proud of our team of designers and projects managers for earning six CotY awards," said Todd Jackson, President and CEO of Jackson Design and Remodeling. "We always say this awards program is like the "Golden Globes" of the industry. As the first awards program of the year, it is a good indicator for which projects will earn acclaim throughout the year. We are just thrilled to have six projects acknowledged and we are excited with this win and are looking forward to many more wins this year. Our team of designers is exceptionally talented and continues to produce the highest caliber work for our clients. Our team collaborates with each client to create beautifully unique rooms that reflect the homeowner's personal style. To have these projects our clients have fallen in love with also earn accolades by our industry peers, is a really special thing."

JDR's six winning projects include:

Residential Kitchen $60,001 to $100,000: Sophisticated Beach Classic
Senior Designer Sherrie Pantalon
Interior Designer Jen Pinto, Allied ASID
Design Assistant Brittany Weber

JDR earned a residential kitchen award for a bright kitchen designed for a couple with young children who fell in love with the stunning ocean views from their 1960s home and wanted a kitchen to accommodate both sophisticated entertaining and comfortable family time. To preserve the integrity of the original home, the JDR team renovated the space within the existing footprint. JDR designers doubled the size of the kitchen by implementing smart space planning and removing the original peninsula. The kitchen's natural surroundings are now central to its welcoming, light-filled design. The open space and subtle colors of contemporary design are balanced with materials and textural details that suggest the appealing character of a classic home.

Residential Kitchen $100,001 to $150,000: View Central Mid-Century Modern
Senior Designer Sol Quintana Wagoner, Allied ASID
Design Assistant Liz Carter, AKBD
Residential Designer John Kavan

This hilltop Pacific Beach home was built in the 1960s on a site featuring incredible views of Mission Bay and the Pacific Coast, yet the original design did little to take advantage of its location. The home was dark and outdated, with significant structural and design changes needed to accommodate modern living and make the most of its natural environment. JDR designers created a new open floor plan carefully designed to maximize and frame the view from every vantage point. An abundance of natural light and openness creates a feeling of serenity and possibility, emphasized by the sophisticated architectural elements now in place, which combine rustic and Mid-Century Modern elements. The color palette is based on white with subtle variations of gray, balanced with natural elements of wood, brass and stone. The heart of the space is a large island illuminated by a pair of amazing rustic chandeliers in grand scale.

Residential Kitchen Over $150,000: Graceful Chic
Senior Designer Tatiana Machado-Rosas, CKD, Allied ASID
Design Assistants Olga Trujillo and Priscilla Jimenez
Residential Designer John Kavan

This expansive kitchen was designed for a couple with two children who value art and family, love to cook large Italian meals, and frequently entertain. The homeowners wanted an elegant, welcoming and far less isolated kitchen with more natural light. JDR designers made the architectural design decision to relocate the kitchen to maximize the appreciation of amazing natural vistas and define the kitchen as a central gathering space. A refined black, white and gold palette is balanced by the contemporary feeling of clean, disciplined lines, while the cooktop's custom hood punctuates the space with originality.

Residential Bath $25,000 to $50,000: Tokyo Dreams
Senior Designer Sol Quintana Wagoner, Allied ASID
Design Assistant Liz Carter, AKBD
Residential Designer Arnold Garza

Designed for a couple who lived in Japan for two decades, this master bath balances the beauty of treasured memories with modern, functional space. When the husband retired from the military after 20 years stationed on the island of Okinawa in Japan, the homeowners settled in San Diego with their three kids. The homeowners wanted their master bathroom to have a distinctive look reminiscent of their time overseas. In the bathroom, a deep bathtub filled from above was inspired by the traditional Japanese "furo" or "yubune." Tranquil colors and natural light create a seductively relaxing atmosphere with a calming connection to the outdoors. To create an authentic Japanese look with the flexibility of modern living, the JDR design team created a "deck" made from porcelain tile with a remarkable resemblance to wood. The new design reflects multiple levels of light, creating an open, restorative effect.

Residential Bath $50,001 to $75,000: Indoor Outdoor Experience
Senior Designer Sol Quintana Wagoner, Allied ASID
Design Assistant Liz Carter, AKBD

The professional yet free-spirited couple who own this mountaintop home wanted to replicate the feeling of an outdoor shower they experienced in a favorite resort during one of their many Caribbean trips together. Built in 1962 at the top of Mt. Helix, the home features stunning natural views and unusual architecture. This memorable master bath evokes the experience of a Caribbean destination resort with a contemporary aesthetic. Connected indoor and outdoor showers and the design's emphasis on openness appeal to the imagination. The JDR design team used colors and materials throughout the room to express an artistic spirit, while careful space planning and storage options provide a high level of modern functionality. Whether luxuriating in the sumptuous indoor shower or in the open air of the outdoor shower, this inviting space creates an unforgettable adventure for all the senses.

Entire Home $500,001 to 750,000: Bird Rock Beach Home
Senior Designer Jen Pinto, Allied ASID
Design Assistant Brittany Weber
Residential Designer Jerry Vara

This stunning beach home in Bird Rock was completely rebuilt from the ground up while retaining the essence of the original 1945 bungalow. The 3-bedroom, 2-bath home blends design elements of a classic beach house with a fresh modern perspective and sustainable living features such as solar energy and drought-conscious landscaping. Carefully considered details throughout the home bring character to the new space. By removing a wall between the small kitchen and cramped dining area, JDR designers were able to triple the size of the original bungalow kitchen. The magnificent island, illuminated by stunning modern light fixtures, boasts a countertop of quartz with a luxurious suede finish that replicates marble. Island seating is ideal for entertaining while cooking.
