East Hanover, NJ, September 3, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. James E. Foley, Diabetes Expert in the Global Clinical Research & Development Department at Novartis Pharmaceutical Corp. has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in his career.

Dr. Foley started his work in the diabetes field in the 1970's first as a graduate student and then a post doc at Dartmouth Medical School. He was then a Visiting Scientist at the University of Arhus in Denmark in 1979 and 1980. Dr. Foley was Sr. Fellow with the NIH Pima Indian Project between 1981 and 1986 where he was member of the core team that started the Pima Prospective Study. Between 1986 and 1997 he was the Director of the Diabetes Research Program at Sandoz that invented vildagliptin (Galvus/Eucreas/Equa) and had identified nateglinide (Starlix) as a licensing opportunity. In 1998 following the merger of Sandoz and Ciba into Novartis, he moved into the New Products Commercialization & Medical Affairs Departments to develop the global Phase IV Plan for Starlix. In 2001 following the launch of Starlix in the U.S., Dr. Foley moved to Global Clinical Research & Development where he took the lead in developing the vildagliptin clinical mechanism program. Dr. Foley is an author on over 135 publications. He has been a member of the ADA and EASD for more than 25 years and is reviewer for numerous journals publishing in areas of diabetes and metabolism. In his current position he is involved in designing, interpreting and publishing clinical studies as well as speaking to international audiences about vildagliptin.
