LONG BEACH, CA, February 16, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jane Williams Fleming has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

As a writer and educator, Ms. Fleming has translated her passion for highlighting methods that turn youngsters on to learning into a long and fruitful career. She first taught for the San Diego Unified and the Costa Mesa School Districts before joining the Long Beach Unified School District, teaching there until her retirement in 1987. Along with parent volunteer Lucia Griffith and fellow teacher Tim Williamson, a "Friendly Club" was launched in 1981. A program initiated by Carol Burnett and Charles Grodin, it taught children tolerance and built their confidence. Although a section from Ms. Fleming's 2001 re-copywritten book, Why Janey Can't Teach, describes how reform affects the classroom and was the basis for its title, keeping notes on the effect the club had on students and on teaching became the impetus behind her resolve to continue writing. She has garnered experience writing for newspapers and magazines, and has kept the Long Beach School Board abreast of progress by speaking to its members.

To prepare for her professional endeavors, Ms. Fleming had earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1951, and a Master of Arts from California State University, Long Beach in 1969. Currently, she is enrolled in a writing class with The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the university, taught by author Sally Rodman, for continued growth in her field. Further, Ms. Fleming stays connected through her affiliations with Phi Kappa Phi and with the the Retired Teachers Association, UCLA Alumni Association, Planetary Society, Red Hat Society, and the Museum of Tolerance.

Ms. Fleming's hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed. She was featured in every volume of Who's Who in America and every volume of Who's Who in the World published between 1998 and 2016, as well as numerous editions of Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the West, and Who's Who in American Education.
