Janet L. Schmidt, MA Recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Learning Disabled Enrichment and Working with Children and Adolescents Challenged by Emotional/Behavior Disorders

Janet Schmidt Served as a Teacher, Assistant Principal and Principal Before Moving to a Clinical Setting



    Williams Bay, WI, December 3, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Janet L. Schmidt, MA, a clinical educator and teacher for Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in learning disabled enrichment and working with children challenged by emotional and behavioral disorders.

Ms. Schmidt has 32 years of experience in the effective treatment of pre- to high school children with learning disabilities and emotional disturbance. After serving as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal, she ascended into her role of clinical educator. Her expertise includes behavioral management and assessment and treatment of children and young adults with ADHD in the educational and community settings. She is responsible for reviewing patient information, meeting with clinical teams, instructing classes and serving as a liason between parents and schools, in addition to formal teacher training inservices. She attributes her success to her family upbringing, mentors and strong work ethic.

Ms. Schmidt received a master's degree in learning disablities and social-emotional disorders in 1985 from Northeastern University. She is a member of the Chapter for Learning Disabilities, which is a part of the Council for Exceptional Children, Chicago Schools and Communities. She is on the executive board of the Chicago Chapter of the Gay Officers Alliance Legion. She is the project investigator for a grant held for 12 years in the Department of Child Advocacy at Lurie Children's Hospital for Teacher-Training. In 1988, she was recognized with the Outstanding Teacher Award from the Chicago Archdiocese. In 2000, she was honored with the Educator of the Year Award from the Feinberg School of Medicine, part of Northwestern University. In 2009 she was the recipient of the Julia Porter Award from Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago for being an outstanding employee.
