A lifelong resident of Florida, Ms. Heaton is an artist/director at Heaton's Studio & Gallery in Lake Park, FL, since 1979. Ms. Heaton is known for her unbelievable talent with the paint brush on a local, national, and international scale. Fascinated by nature, she has produced paintings of wildlife from Africa and North America, including an array of birds and mammals such as giraffes, zebras, elephants, domestic and wild cats, including tropical florals. She visits parts of Africa and India to research, paint and photograph these amazing animals and considers the highlight of her career to be traveling to countries that are fortunate to have animals living in their natural habitat for her to bring to the viewing public. Ms. Heaton has chosen three mediums for her work in watercolor, oil, and pastel.
Throughout the course of her career, Ms. Heaton has gained acclaim and recognition for her artwork. Since 1988, she has been featured in one-woman shows, group shows, exhibitions, and permanent collections across the country as well as internationally in both Africa and Europe. Her works have been displayed at places like the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, Arizona - Sonora Desert Museum, Disney's Animal Kingdom, The National Arts and Salmagundi Clubs. Her work was exhibited at the East Africa's Mount Kenya Safari Club and the State House in Nairobi Kenya, East Africa.
Ms. Heaton's work has resulted in accolades in both animal art and photography. She has produced bronze sculptures, two of which are titled "Nubs," an elephant that she created after seeing him on safari in Kenya, East Africa, and "Resting Cheetah," a female cheetah she observed also while in Kenya. Ms. Heaton has no intention of slowing down, it is more than just a passion; it is her life. She attributes her success to people who love and cannot live without art.
She is a signature member of the Florida Watercolor Society, the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, the Pastel Society of America, Society of Animal Artists, and Artists for Conservation. For the past 20 years she has volunteered and raised funds for the John D. MacArthur Beach State Park. She attended Florida State University from 1954 to 1956. Ms. Heaton has been included in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
