A student of the prestigious Seoul National University from 1975 to 1979, Dr. Lee received his BBA and continued his studies at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, where he earned a MS in 1981. With his MS, Dr. Lee began a five-year long journey of studying for a PhD in 1983. In 1988, Dr. Lee graduated from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology with a PhD in Management Science.
Following his graduation, Dr. Lee became an assistant professor in Kyungpook National University. Thereafter, Dr. Lee was promoted to the position of an associate professor in 1991, and subsequently, a professor in 1996. While working as an associate professor, Dr. Lee was a visiting scholar at Purdue University and Stanford University in 1991 and 1998, respectively. From 2005 to 2006, Dr. Lee worked as a member of the Industry Development Investigation Committee for the Ministry of Industry and Resource. In 2005, Dr. Lee was selected as a board director of the Daegu-Gyungbuk Institute of Science and Technology. The following year, he became the chair for the Department of Business Administration at Kyungpook National University. To this day, he continues to teach as a professor in Kyungpook National University.
Throughout his career, Dr. Lee has contributed his expertise to his field through his publications. In the last five years, he has published 10 peer-reviewed journal publications and seven peer-reviewed paper presentations. His work has been recognized by both national and international audiences. As such, Dr. Lee was the recipient of the Best Paper Award from the Journal of Management in 2001, as well as the Best Academic Award from the MaeKyung-Bit Academic Award Foundation in 2007. Dr. Lee has also written the following books: "Emergence Management," "Win-Win Growth," "Small Giants," and "One Man Creative Company." His textbooks include "Strategic Management in the Creative Economy" published in 2013, and "Entrepreneurship and Start-ups" published in 2014.
Dr. Lee is a member of several organizations both in his field and in relation to the conservation of Korean culture. As a chairman, Dr. Lee has made significant contributions to the Korean Academic Society of Business Administration, the Korean Association of Small Business Studies, the Korean Strategic Management Society, and the Success Economy Institute. Since 2007, Dr. Lee has been a board member for the Daegu International Musical Festival. Additionally, he was a member of the Presidential Council for Future and Vision from 2008 to 2013, and the National Economic Advisory Council from 2013 to 2015. Furthermore, Dr. Lee has been a member of the Korean Commission for Corporate Partnership since 2010, and the Constitutional Court of Korea since 2014. As a result of his involvement, several organizations have celebrated Dr. Lee's work; in 2007, he was the recipient of the Venture Industry Policy Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology. Moreover, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism awarded him with the Culture Industry Policy Award in 2010. Notably, Dr. Lee received the Mentoring Award from the Presidential Council for Youth in 2013 and was awarded Presentation Order in 2017.
