/24-7PressRelease/ -- Jasper Guide Services and their Lake Minnetonka Fishing Guides present Fish Camp!, a day camp where kids discover and learn the basics of fishing and boating in an interactive atmosphere. The camp will be offered throughout the summer of 2010 at the Mound Bay Park Depot and other parks in the metro area of Minnesota.
On day one each camper is given a new rod, reel and tackle box full of their own gear. The campers will learn about their new equipment, how to tie knots, where to find fish and the importance of boat safety. Each segment has a hands-on learning activity; students practice casting at targets, tying knots with giant Rapala lures and rigging lines. On day two, they will use the information they learned on day one and the help of our Lake Minnetonka fishing professionals to search for fish. Depending on which package they choose, the campers will either pair up and get out on the water where they learn about the equipment on a professionally rigged Ranger bass boat, using the depth-finder, trolling motor, live wells and underwater camera or as a group, learn how to fish from shore or pier.
"Teaching kids the basics of fishing and boating, will be something they will use the rest of their lives", says Dan Jasper founder of Fish Camp!. "Not all kids have the opportunities I had as a child, living on a lake and learning to fish from my Dad and Grandpa. I wanted to create something that was fun and educational. Fishing is a sport you can enjoy your entire life and with over 10,000 lakes in Minnesota, you can fish almost anywhere." Dan says he wants to make sure each child gets a chance to discover the fun and excitement of fishing and boating.
