-- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Jay Claude Richards with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Richards celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
President of J.C. Richards Associates since 1980, a photography business located in Harmony Township, NJ, and owner/historian of Poor Richards' British Gun Shop since 1976, also located in Harmony Township, Mr. Richards is an experienced entrepreneur who formerly spent over two decades in communications as a reporter for several newspaper publications, photographer and superior court radio correspondent. Lending his expertise to his photography business after spending 21 years working for professional publications such as "The News" of Belvidere in New Jersey, Mr. Richards has a keen eye for the camera. Meanwhile, Poor Richards' British Gun Shop, which was originally founded by the Richards family as a firearms supplier to Bi-Centennial re-enactors in 1975, has since evolved to meet the need for firearms transfers for collectors seeking items in online auction sites, thanks to Mr. Richards himself. The company also handcrafts such items as bread bags, canteen shoulder straps, helmet covers, and other historical items from Austria-Hungary, Great Britain and France.
In addition to maintaining his businesses, Mr. Richards also writes extensively. He created the blog "Civil War Warren County" in 2011. He has also authored numerous books and other publications, recently including "World War Two Veterans of Warren County, New Jersey: A Tribute to the Men & Women Who Defend Freedom" in 2010. His books go back as far as 1995, when he first authored "Penn, Patriots and the Pequest: The History of Pre-Victorian Belvidere, 1716-1845." Outside of his writings, Mr. Richards has served as a historical consultant, press officer of the Warren County Office of Emergency Management in Belvidere, photography judge for Warren County 4-H in Belvidere, foreign policy leadership participant at George Washington University, and member of the Statue of Liberty Ellis Island Foundation. Mr. Richards has been a bread baker locally for a large retailer for the past four years.
Remaining active with the National Indian Wars Association, the Oxford New Jersey Historical Society, the Society of Professional Journalists, the National Press Photographers Association, and several other professional organizations, Mr. Richards has been honored for his work several times. In 2007, he was the recipient of a Legion of Honor Award from the Chapel of Four Chaplains. He also received an Outstanding Community Service Award from the American Legion Post 131 in 1994, and in 1993, was named an Honorary Member of Boy Scout Troop 141 in Belvidere.
Mr. Richards studied at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens in the early 1970s, during which time he held various armed security positions. Citied in approximately 30 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who in the World, Mr. Richards enjoys gourmet cooking, gardening, and the many benefits of herbal medicine.
