Jeffrey R. Sorrell Named a VIP Member of Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Ministry

Mr. Sorrell spent his last 30 years involved in outreach ministry



    DAYTON, OH, May 18, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jeffrey R. Sorrell, Executive Director and Vice President for Dayton Life Enrichment Center, was recently named a VIP Member of Worldwide Who's Who. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.

Mr. Sorrell has worked in the business sector and in the nonprofit sector for over 35 years. In his current role he directs and manages a major nonprofit that serves a diverse population. In this capacity, he focuses on networking and developing a cohesive collaboration to sustain and promote a business model for nonprofits. While managing and utilizing budgets, funding programs, team building principles, program assessment techniques, vision casting and operations, he works directly with staff, volunteers, and clients. One of his major goals is to recruit and motivate a work force that relies upon volunteers to serve the underserved.

At the age of 21, when seeking a change in his life, Mr. Sorrell began ministering in nursing homes, jails, prisons and psychiatric nursing homes. He has served as a chaplain in county jails, as well as drug and rehabilitation centers. He became a licensed, ordained minister in 1986. His last 30 years have been dedicated to ministry outreach. In 2002, Mr. Sorrell's vision for a nonprofit, culminated in the launching of the Life Enrichment Center. The ministry originated as an individual church ministry; however, the Life Enrichment Center now maintains a community-wide ministry involving and supporting a variety of Christian organizations. As a hub of interdenominational and complimentary agencies, the Life Enrichment Center flourishes as a stand-alone nonprofit organization housed within a 57,000 square-foot building serving between 500 to 700 clients weekly. The Life Enrichment Center continues to reach out to community churches to support and sustain The Life Enrichment Center as the organization provides services for those in the community who are underserved and who struggle with a variety of issues; such as, homelessness and poverty. The LEC provides educational classes; such as, GED prep, adult basic literacy, ESOL classes, job training, wellness and nutrition classes. In addition, health screenings and health fairs offer care for the community. The Life Enrichment Center vision has expanded to include a complete fitness center, a community safety village for children, a neighborhood bike shop, and a computer lab with internet access. To further meet the needs of clients, a beauty salon and showers for the homeless are provided. The organization has also created a community resource center in collaboration with 10 other nonprofits. The center is run by two full-time employees, one part-time employee, and a volunteer staff of 17 as well as 65 volunteers a day. The Center serves 500 to 700 people weekly.

Mr. Sorrell attributes his success to his relationship with Christ who enables him to pursue doing the right thing and serving the people in the right way.

Mr. Sorrell completed a high school education. He is a board member of the National Police Athletic Activities League and the Widow's Home of Dayton. Additionally, he has received the Appalachian Unsung Hero Award from Sinclair Community College. He has earned the respect of his colleagues, his staff and the clients he serves. He continues to work toward his goal is to change his community and to leave a legacy of care in the city of Dayton.
