MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, October 05, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jennifer Morris, Ph.D., Transport Planning and Policy Specialist, has been named a Worldwide Branding Professional of the Year in Transportation. While inclusion in Worldwide Branding is an honor, only small selections of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Branding membership.

With 37 years of extensive industry experience, Dr. Morris is now working in a freelance capacity having retired recently from a full time ongoing position in the Victorian public service. Adept in the area of integrated transport planning and its social impact, she has held a number of senior roles at the Department of Transport, variously concerned with integrated planning, the development of transport social policy (such as accessibilty planning and policies to assist older drivers transitioning to other forms of mobilty), workforce planning issues in the road freight industry and the implementation of integrated transport legislation. Most recently she worked in the area of intergovernmental relations dealing with national regulations and national reforms in transport safety. She has also contributed to research on accessibility, mobility, social inclusion and understanding travel behavior, having published extensively on these topics during her career. Given her blend of skills and wide experience in complementary facets of transport, Jenny Morris is able to contribute to transportation, trucking and railroad regulations.

Dr. Morris also has a sound understanding of organisational governance, having served previously on two government boards (including the Road Construction Authority from 1983 to 1989). She has had a longstanding involvement in transport research, including as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Transport Studies Unit at Oxford University in 1981, a research scientist at the Australian Transport Research Board, and director of the Transport Research Centre at RMIT University. She has also been actively affiliated with the Australasian Transport Research Forum over a number of years. With a keen interest in good transport and urban policy outcomes and strong expertise in transport research, planning and policy, Dr. Morris has a proven ability to conceptualise problems within an holistic framework and to identify interdependencies, thus aiding the development of robust (and often innovative) solutions. A qualified professional in her field, Dr. Morris received a PhD in urban geography in 1978 and a Bachelor of Arts in geography in 1972, both from Monash University. In the coming years, Dr. Morris is looking to continue to contribute professionally, possibly serving on government boards, providing specialist advice on transport policy, mentoring younger professionals and undertaking collaborative research activities.
