Jennifer Thompson Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Defense Program Management

Jennifer Thompson has been named a VIP member for 2011-2012

LAYTON, UT, August 8, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jennifer Thompson, Program Manager for the U.S. Air Force, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in defense services.

Initially inspired to enter active military service by the commander of her civil air patrol squadron, Ms. Thompson has served as a program manager for the U.S. Air Force for 14 years. She has worked in the military field for a total of 23 years, and during this time, she has also acquired expertise in advisory services, administrative services, and missile operations. As a program manager, she is responsible for monitoring contractors' actions in the acquisition, modification, delivery and sustainability of assigned programs. She also manages all aspects of cost, schedule, and performance activities throughout project execution. Ms. Thompson is an officer in the U.S. Air Force and a lieutenant colonel in the 419th Force Support Squadron of the Air Force Reserve.

The highlight of Ms. Thompson's career was when she had the opportunity to play a part in the end of the Cold War. She was on alert at the squadron command post when the historic order came for the unilateral stand-down of the Minuteman II system of intercontinental ballistic missiles. Implementing the presidential directive was a strange and scary feeling, she told Cambridge Who's Who, after all the intense training she had undergone to ensure the missiles were always on alert and ready to go if necessary. She added, "It was the first step in the end of a decades-long Cold War. Momentous. How can you not be excited and proud to be part of that?"

Ms. Thompson earned a master's degree in administrative sciences from the University of Montana and a Bachelor of Science in occupational safety and health from Utah State University. Moreover, she received professional military education at the Squadron Officer School and the Air Command and Staff College. Ms Thompson also completed fundamental and intermediate courses in systems acquisition, and holds Level 1 certification in acquisition professional development from the U.S. Department of Defense. For her services and dedication to her country, she has been honored with a Meritorious Service Award, Joint Commendation Award and Air Force Commendation Award. In five years, Ms. Thompson hopes to remain in the program management field as a government civilian or contractor.
