The Recognition Award Ceremony was held on August 25th at the Raleigh Convention Center.
Jill B. Smith Architect, PA, offers design services on a wide array of projects including multi-family housing, schools and universities, recreation, offices, and food service. The company was nominated to receive their most recent honor, which recognized companies that have played a vital role in the Raleigh Durham area's economic development, contributed to the region's growth and construction, and have developed awareness in "green" building.
Company founder, Jill Smith, has been designing and teaching passive solar and green buildings since the 80's and was Project Architect for a school project that received national and international recognition for its sustainable design in the mid-90's. Smith said that she and her team members are honored with their recent accomplishment, and it will serve to strengthen their commitment to continue designing buildings that are both energy efficient and environmentally sensitive.
"Having worked at a National Laboratory where energy research was their mission, designing energy efficient buildings was a natural part of my design process," says Smith. "Our company has designed numerous green buildings and tend to serve a clientele with very limited budgets. They want LEED buildings, but lack the financial resources for certification. Our approach is to design within their budget and when the project is completed, the client is pleasantly surprised to learn what level their building would be if they went through certification. I am thankful that there is currently a national effort of awareness of the building industry's environmental impact."
