With nearly 20 years of experience in the field, Dr. Burgess has worked as an adjunct professor of chemistry at Case Western Reserve University since 2016, having worked as an associate professor from 2006 to 2015, and an assistant professor from 2000 to 2006. In addition to his work at Case Western Reserve University, he serves as a professor and chair of the Augusta University Department of Medical Laboratory, Imaging, and Radiologic Science since 2016. Earlier in his career, he was an assistant professor of natural sciences with Longwood University from 1998 to 2000.
Dr. Burgess began his career, at Longwood University, obtaining a BS in chemistry, going on to earn a PhD in chemistry at Virginia Commonwealth University. He has co-authored 26 peer-reviewed scientific articles, and he is a member of the Electrochemical Society, serving as an executive officer for the organic and biological electrochemistry division since 2005, and as chair from 2014 to 2016. He is also a member of the American Chemical Society, and he oversees three national accredited professional programs for clinical laboratory sciences, nuclear medicine technology, and radiation therapy.
