Jim K. Anderson Inducted into Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Mining and Supervision

Jim Anderson has earned a reputation as the 'go-to guy' that gets the job done right



    CAMPBELL RIVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA, July 16, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jim K. Anderson Mobile Maintenance Superintendant of Nyrstar Myra Falls, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in mining and supervision.

Mr. Anderson is a specialist in mining services, having accumulated nearly four decades of practiced experience in the industry. The expertise he has gained has allowed him to excel with Nyrstar Myra Falls as a mobile maintenance superintendent - a position he has held for eight years. Approachable, motivated, compassionate, honest, driven, organized, and respectful, Mr. Anderson is passionate about safety, production, and the profitability of the company. In the course of his duties, Mr. Anderson manages maintenance crews, driving them to achieve a high safety standard while maintaining or surpassing budgeted production goals and keeping costs down. Mr. Anderson also develops and manages a budget of $25 million, in addition to $25 million capitol for a mining operation of 287 employees. He monitors KPIs for safety and production on a daily basis in order to achieve budgeted targets and forecasted growth results.
In addition to his administrative duties, Mr. Anderson oversees a commercial vehicle inspection facility, a fleet of highway trucks and trailers, four dams supplying two hydroelectric generating stations, a powerhouse with 8CAT 3516 generator sets, and six Detroit 149 generator sets. He is responsible for using these generators in the event of low seasonal water levels at the aforementioned dams.

Mr. Anderson deals firsthand with several regulatory bodies, including Transport Canada, Fisheries and Oceans, and Environment Canada to assure compliance with current and future projects. He works daily with suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and companies around the globe, and he directly supervises 32 tradesmen, three separate crews, two supervisors, one planner and one secretary. Mr. Anderson and his crews work with 150-plus pieces of equipment, spread over three surface and three underground shops.
Over the years, Mr. Anderson has gained a great deal of knowledge regarding underground equipment, mining methods, and troubleshooting. Through this, he has become familiarized with the wide range of responsibilities associated with his position as a mobile maintenance superintendent.

Mr. Anderson is well respected by his peers for being highly motivated, hard working and determined. Known for his insight, consistency, sense of humor and positive attitude, this has enabled him to be an excellent leader. Believing that people are your most valuable asset, and leading them with honesty and integrity, has helped him assemble some great teams. He can help clients manage their costs, improve safety, boost production, and increase EBIDA (Earnings Before Interest, Depreciation and Amortization). Outside of his professional career, he maintains a non-smoking, non-drinking lifestyle. He renovated his own home and has been married for more than 20 years.

As a technician in multiple industries, Mr. Anderson has gained plenty of experience troubleshooting mobile devices in the field and rebuilding mobile systems in shops. Mr. Anderson has a wide range of mining talents, both underground and on the surface. He became involved in his profession after working in the maintenance end of several industries, the latter being in tunneling and mining. The highlight of his career was having seven-plus consecutive years of no lost time accidents for his maintenance crews and 500 hours no lost time accidents property wide. This distinction was made possible by his application of safeguards and budgeting for success on all levels of mining production. His outstanding safety record is practically unheard of in this industry.

In 2012, Mr. Anderson completed a dam inspection and maintenance operator course, as well as a Professional Supervisor Course, which focused on first aid and WHIMIS at Queens University 2012. He has also completed courses in standard first aid and CPR, and SAFEmap advanced competency-based safety training. To benefit others, he contributes to United Way, the Diabetic Association and the SPCA, and he organizes donations for accidents and illness incurred by the families of employees within his company. In his spare time, he builds custom hot rods and Harley Davidson motorcycles. He also applies artistic paint jobs to cars and bikes. Mr. Anderson is passionate about health and fitness, and he has a keen appreciation for the outdoors. Looking toward the future, Mr. Anderson does not intend to slow down but strives to achieve a balance shift between his personal and professional life.
