/24-7PressRelease/ -- When Berkeley County Habitat for Humanity contacted JK Harris and Company, the nation's largest tax representation firm for a donation on a home they are currently building, the company was honored to be able to assist.
The company made a donation to assist in the construction of the home Habitat is building, and provided a crew of JK Harris employees to help with construction.
"I chose to participate for two reasons," said Kelly Scott, an Enrolled Agent who works as a Licensed Taxpayer Representative at JK Harris. "I wanted the opportunity to perform volunteer work in our local community. Secondly, I wanted to learn more about Habitat and their mission. The coordinators were so appreciative of our help and they took the time to teach me the skills I needed to complete the job. I left with a real feeling of accomplishment!"
The non-profit group is working to build this particular home using the donation of money or materials from businesses in Berkeley County. Referred to as a Business Build, local businesses team up to help Habitat put families who are currently residing in substandard or inadequate housing, into new homes.
"I am very proud of our employees and the way they have reached out to embrace Berkeley County and our corporate home in Goose Creek," said John Harris, the founder and president of JK Harris and Company. "Several charitable organizations have called on us for help since we relocated to Goose Creek. Fortunately, we have been able to help many of these groups in some small way."
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization and Christian ministry that funds itself on grants and private donations. Volunteer labor helps keep the cost of building homes affordable.
