/24-7PressRelease/ - NORTH CHARLESTON, SC, February 10, 2008 - Tax relief can come in many forms. For Joanna Martin, it came in the form of JK Harris & Company, which helped Martin dig herself out of a huge tax debt.

The IRS did not have four years of tax returns on file for the California resident. So, the IRS filed a Substitute for Return for each of the four years, leaving Martin with a tax debt of more than $300,000. In fact, Martin had been under the impression her husband filed the returns and didn't even know they hadn't been filed until the IRS notified her of the debt.

That's when she came to JK Harris, the nation's largest tax resolution company. The first thing JK Harris did was prepare her tax returns for those years the IRS had been missing. And once the returns were prepared and subsequently processed by the IRS, Martin ended up owing just under $11,000.

"Initially, the IRS was chasing me for over $300,000," Martin said.

Once her debt was significantly reduced, JK Harris went to work on getting a Streamline Installment Agreement in place. A Streamline IA is only an option when a taxpayer owes less than $25,000 and can pay it off in 60 months or less.

JK Harris was able to negotiate monthly payments of $185 for Martin. However, the Revenue Officer assigned to the case by the IRS recalculated the monthly payment, adding projected interest to the balance, and advised Martin her monthly payment would be $285, not the $185 that was initially agreed upon.

"I called the Revenue Officer and asked her to make the adjustment back to the IA that she and I had agreed upon - $185," said Troy Sholl, an attorney and Licensed Taxpayer Representative with JK Harris. "Unfortunately, she held her position, as did her manager. From there, we brought the case before the Office of the Taxpayer Advocate."

Within a month, the Office of the Taxpayer Advocate had the monthly payments of $185 reinstated.
"I would recommend JK Harris to anyone with IRS issues," Martin said.
