Hagins, Stern & Lewis, P.A., has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in personal injury law.

Mr. Hagins has 50 years of professional experience, with 25 years as a partner and member of Covington, Patrick, Hagins, Stern & Lewis, P.A. Throughout his career, he has built up a comprehensive skill set that includes personal injury and product liability litigation, and he regularly provides clients with expet1legal services in business, product liability and personal injury litigation.

Mr. Hagins has served in several prestigious service positions, most notably as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives and House Judiciary Committee from 1966 to 1970. He has served on the Governor's Arson Study Committee, the State Commission on Human Affairs and the Governor's Committee on Mental Health. He is a founding member of the board of directors of the Charleston School of Law and is on the partnership board of directors of the University of South Carolina School of Law. He has also served as president of the SC Trial Lawyers Association, and on the Southern and U.S. Conference of Bar Presidents and the SC Bar Foundation Board. He was the only lawyer to serve as president of both the S.C. Bar Association and the S.C. Trial Lawyers Association.

He is a co-author of the S.C. Bar's 'Standards of Professional Responsibility' and one of three, inclusive of the chief justice, of state mediation and mandatory mediation. He has been a member of this firm since 1994. He stat1ed his career in Beaufort, S.C., when Hilton Head was first established. He began working in real estate law for five years, during which time he also did litigation, and then went on to do trial work and then commercial and business litigation. He then came back to his hometown and clerked for John West, who was Governor and later Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and then eventually ran for legislature. He came to Greenville in 1971.

Looking back, Mr. Hagins became involved in his profession because he was on the debate team in school and the topic was free trade. The team went on to win the state debate championship. He was choosing between a career in architecture or law, and since mathematics was not his strong suit, and he chose the legal field.

Mr. Hagins received a JD from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1963. He was recently inducted into Worldwide Registry and also maintains affiliation with the South Carolina Bar Association. In recognition of his excellence as a lawyer, he has been an AV Preeminent Rated Attorney through Martindale-Hubbell for the past 30 years, and he received a Compleat Lawyer Platinum Award upon graduation from the University of South Carolina School of Law. In years to come, he will do more business-oriented work and work with the younger lawyers.
