Mr. Ahlers has 26 years of experience in construction law. He is a founding partner of Ahlers & Cressman, PLLC. Mr. Ahlers is considered to be an expert in litigating construction and real estate, and government contracts. Mr. Ahlers represents general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, owners, and design professionals in both government and private contracts. His experience spans from small private construction to complex engineering, building heavy highway construction and insurance matters. His work for his clients typically includes preparation of pre-design agreements, owner/architect agreements, construction documents, assisting with the bidding process, and legal advice during and after construction. Contract arrangements involve design design building contracts, general contractor/manager contracts, and private public partnerships on a fixed price and cost plus contract basis. During the construction phase of the project, Mr. Ahlers assists his clients with change order issues and disputes that arise during performance. When disputes develop, Mr. Ahlers has utilized mid-project mediation, arbitration, and other dispute resolution processes such as dispute review boards and independent neutrals to resolve matters that cannot await resolution at the project's completion. Mr. Ahler's experience includes jury trials, bench trials, arbitration, mediation, and a variety of alternative dispute resolution processes including dispute review board presentation.
A graduate of Gonzaga University, Mr. Ahlers received his JD, Summa Cum Laude, in 1982. He has a Master of Science in Construction Engineering and Management from Stanford University and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Washington State University. Mr. Ahlers is a member of several professional organizations including the American Arbitration Association, the Washington State Bar Association, the Oregon State Bar Association, the Alaska Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Utility Contractors of Washington, American General Contractors, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Capital Projects Advisory Review Board.
