John L. Leonardo, MD, is Recognized by Worldwide Branding For Excellence in Chronic Pain Management

While attending medical school, Dr. John L. Leonardo discovered that he enjoyed many aspects of anesthesiology. In 2002, he earned a Doctor of Medicine Degree from State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Afterwards, he entered the Anesthesiology Residency Program at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons at St. Luke's Roosevelt Medical Center where he served as Chief Resident during his final year from 2005 to 2006. Dr. Leonardo's training program was the home of the New York School of Regional Anesthesia (NYSORA). As such, he became particularly adept at performing Peripheral Nerve Blocks and Neuraxial Anethesia. With these skills, Dr. John L. Leonardo joined two private practice groups that served the New York and New Jersey area after completion of residency from 2006 through 2013. Dr. John L. Leonardo specialized in Office-Based Anethesia (OBA) where he provided care in the ambulatory setting to Orthopedic/Spinal Surgeons, Plastic Surgeons, Pain Management Physicians, Gastroenterologists, Oral Surgeons, Urologists, etc.

In 2013, Dr. John L. Leonardo relocated to Toronto, Ontario, as he joined the Karmy Chronic Pain Medicine Clinic (KCPMC). He successfully completed a Change in Scope of Practice Assessment by the CPSO to practice Chronic Pain Management independently in Ontario. Currently a chronic pain management physician for the Leonardo Medicine Professional Corporation, Dr. Leonardo applies his expertise in pain management to handle patient care, screening and monitoring of patients, and overseeing business operations. He specializes in performing peripheral nerve blocks, neuaxial blockade, and joint injections using landmark-based and ultrasound-guided techniques.

In the Spring of 2015, Dr. John L. Leonardo introduced Platlet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections to the KCPMC for treatment of various pain ailments e.g. ligament, tendon, muscle, and joint injuries. He worked with various Pain Management Specialists and Orthopedic Surgeons in the U.S. who utilized PRP in their practice as early as 2008. The technique involves withdrawing blood from a patient, centrifuging the blood to superconcentrate platelets and various growth factors, harvesting these components, and injecting them back into the patient to promote healing and repair of injuries via stem cells that migrate to the area of concern.

A former member of The New York State Society of Anesthesiologists, Inc., Dr. Leonardo remains updated in his field by attending various Anethesiology and Chronic pain Management conferences within Canada and the U.S. He remains a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology. In addition to his interests in Anethesiology and Chronic Pain Management, Dr. John L. Leonardo has attended numerous Medical Aesthetics Courses and has become skilled at Nonsurgical Cosmetic procedures. He is currently a member of the American Cosmetic Cellular Medicine Association (ACCMA) as he has trained with Dr. Charles Runels, the inventor of the Vampire Facelift, Vampire Facial, Priapus Shot, and O-Shot. These procedures utilize PRP to achieve an improved appearance or function. In addition to these procedures, Dr. John L. Leonardo performs Botox injections, Hyaluronic Acid Filler injections, Hair Regrowth treatment, Scar treatment, etc.

The Consumers' Research Council of America has also named him one of America's Top Anesthesiologists from 2006 to 2013.
